In a move designed to ease supply chain strains and ensure patient access to vital medications, the FDA has issued exemptions to the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) for "connected trading partners" and proposed a stepwise approach with new timelines for manufacturers/repackagers (May 27, 2025), distributors (August 27, 2025) and dispensers with 26 or more full-time employees (November 27, 2025). A recent surge in counterfeit Viagra has made it Britain's primary counterfeit drug problem. UK authorities seized over £6.2 million worth of fake Viagra last year, equating to roughly 2.6 million doses of sildenafil.
The counterfeit drug crisis isn't limited to Viagra. A Welsh drug testing service found that 42% of over 7,000 tested samples were counterfeit branded drugs.
